Congressman Langevin's Town Hall

UPDATE: Please note Congressman Langevin's August 19th Warwick Town Hall meeting location has been changed to WARWICK CITY HALL

Wednesday, August 19, 6pm Warwick City Hall, 3275 Post Rd., Warwick (same date - Wednesday, August 19 and same time 6-7).

Below are forwarded details of the August recess Town Hall meetings hosted by Representative Langevin and Senator Whitehouse from the director of Ocean State Action. Normally these are not things I would bother to forward, but this is definitely not a normal year. I might even say, that normally I would not find myself going to one of these meetings, but these will not be your average community meetings. After all, this is the year of healthcare reform, and the year the right wing is trying to derail every item the Democrats have campaigned on - and won the White House campaigning on - by stopping healthcare reform now.

Now is the time to make a stand.

We must show our strength. We cannot let the voice of genuine healthcare reform be silenced by an extreme minority empowered by falsehoods and outright lies. The delay tactics and malicious misinformation that have been deployed by the right cannot be the momentum stopper they intended. PLEASE make a commitment to attend one of these meetings, and if you cannot attend please call your Representative and Senators while they are in the state on break. This is what democracy demands. Our voices, those of reason, not fear, must be heard.

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to call. I will be attending the events on the 19th and 20th, and phone banking on the 18th if anyone wants to carpool.

Thank you for all that you do,

Teresa

Representative Kennedy: (401) 729-5600 Representative Langevin: (401) 732-9400 Senator Whitehouse: (401) 453-5294 Senator Reed: (401) 943-3100

MESSAGE FROM OCEAN STATE ACTION FUND:
"Hello all - I am writing to ask that each and every one of you to dig deep for the progressive movement in this state and attend one of the community forums being hosted by Rep. Langevin and Sen. Whitehouse. The right wing is on the march not only in other parts of the country but indeed here in Rhode Island. If they outnumber us at these events, it is not only the momentum for health care reform that is threatened - but indeed every progressive piece of the Obama agenda.
The right wing march against union members, immigrants, LGBT community, women's rights, and fair taxation and budgeting in this state - including the fights against K-12 education, public transit, and more - will be further energized if the Whitehouse and Langevin community meetings turn into right wing rallies.
Here are the dates of the forums.
Town Hall Gathering with Jim Langevin -Wednesday, August 19th at 6-7pm, Warwick City Hall, 3275 Post Rd, Warwick
Community Dinner with Sheldon Whitehouse - Thursday, August 20th - 5:30pm, West Warwick Senior Center, 145 Washington Street, West Warwick
Community Dinner with Sheldon Whitehouse - Wednesday, August 26th - 5pm, Johnston Senior Center, 1291 Hartford Avenue, Johnston.
Town Hall Gathering with Jim Langevin-Thursday, September 3rd from 4:30-6pm, Bandstand at Wilcox Park (44 Broad Street) in Westerly
Also, Ocean State Action is doing phone banking at our office in Cranston to turnout for these events on this coming Monday and Tuesday, August 17 and 18th from 5pm-8pm and also on August 24 and 25 from 5-8.
Please get the word out about these forums any way you can. We need people there early, to make sure they get a seat, and prepared to tell their health care stories and ask good questions.
Thanks for your support and commitment to this cause and the future of our state. Have a great weekend."
